Water Cube
Water Cube
Cotton thread, wood, wire
2010

Collaborative project with Caroline von Schulthess.

The cotton thread cube (about 1.5 m on each side) represents the amount of water that is used in the lifetime of one pair of jeans: 3,480 liters. We made a choice to utilize old remnant thread to show this mass in a contrarily light and thoughtful way so that the viewers can visually experience it. The process of knotting the 5,230 threads in the cube was very labor intensive. It associates with all the hard work put into a pair of jeans: cotton growing, harvesting, dyeing, weaving, designing, cutting, sewing, and transporting.
